OPERATION-KIDS, PHNOM PENH, CAMBODIA is a non-profit organization based in Phnom Penh, Cambodia which helps burn victims and children who have been scarred as a result of violence, neglect, or improper medical treatment. Operation-Kids, or OK, was founded by Dr. Reid Sheftall in 2001,Dr Sheftall is an American surgeon who has lived in Cambodia since that time. Throwing acid is one of the most horrible and cruel acts of torture that a person can commit. In Cambodia, acid attacks are a common form of revenge for those who don't intend to kill but wish to seriously maim a victim physically, psychologically, and emotionally for life. Acid melts the skin and deeper tissues, permanently disfiguring the victim's appearance and sometimes causing other permanent disabilities such as blindness. The reasons for a person committing this horrible crime is usually out of jealousy or hatred towards someone as a result of a problem in a personal relationship. Whether it is because someone they love has been unfaithful, broken the relationship, or has simply rejected them, the person blames the victim and deliberately carries out the most despicable and destructive of crimes. Sometimes, children of adults involved in a love triangle become the victims. Sulfuric acid is readily available and inexpensive, and the person who carries jealousy and anger in their heart can easily purchase it, stalk the victim, and attack the victim whenever and wherever their is an opportunity. The damage from this kind of attack destroys the person's life in every way imaginable. The victim is outcast from society, ridiculed and laughed at, and is often left with little choice than to live hidden from view. The victim has no chance of leading a normal life, finding a husband or wife or even a simple job. The victim suffers serious psychological damage which often ends in suicide. The families of these victims are unable to afford simple medical treatment, let alone the expense of plastic surgery which would be the only chance for the victim to re-enter society. By becoming a donor to Operation-Kids, you can help a victim of an acid attack regain their life once again, not only physically, but in every way possible. We have moved our operations to a building that has room to accomodate the parents while their child is being treated.
